Branscum "drug drop"
A man who allegedly attempted to make a "drug drop" at the Cocke County Jail on Monday, now is in custody. Royce Branscum, 36, Jones Cove Road, Cosby, was detained by jail personnel at 8 pm at which time he told Deputy James Cupp he was in possession of "dope." A bag containing methamphetamine, marijuana, hydrochloride, and clonazepam was seized. In addition, officers recovered another bag containing tobacco and a syringe needle which Branscum had dropped earlier. Branscum now is charged with possession of schedule II, III and IV controlled substances as well as drug paraphernalia. He also is charged with the introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
