Worex-Parker arrest
An officer with the Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole has been indicted by the Cocke County Grand Jury on a felony charge alleging that she initiated the filing of a false police report. Linda Cheryl Worex-Parker, 50, Golden Walk Way, Newport was named on the sealed presentment returned on Monday, in the case that was investigated by Newport Detective Captain Jason Ramsey. She is free on a $2,500 bond. Worex-Parker is an officer for the state agency, and was assigned to Cocke County until her recent transfer to the Third Judicial District. She was taken into custody by Cocke County Deputy Sgt. Max Laughter at her workplace, the Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole office in Morristown. The false report was allegedly filed with Newport Patrol Officer Jonathan Ball. Assistant DA Tim Horn of the First Judicial District will prosecute the case after the Office of Jimmy Dunn recused itself from the case. Horn told the NewsSource on Thursday that the defendant reported her vehicle stolen and then filed an insurance claim. The indictment says the defendant knew "that the said offense or incident did not occur." Prosecutor Horn said the arrest of the defendant has been forwarded to the legal counsel for the state agency, which will make a recommendation on the employment status of Worex-Parker.
