|Kathy Holt arrest|
A former Newport alderwoman who didn't show for her Monday court hearing in Cocke County Criminal Court, has been arrested. Kathy Holt, 55, Ratcliff Street, Newport, was scheduled to enter a plea to a probation violation but didn't show. She was taken into custody at her home at 7 pm by Deputy Sgt. Heath Willis, and is being held without bond. In May 2015, Holt who operated the Pit Stop Market in Newport pleaded guilty to three felony charges in Cocke County Circuit Court; two counts of money laundering as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering. Circuit Court Judge Rex Henry Ogle ordered her to serve eight years on probation in that case. In September of last year, Holt went through the self-checkout at Wal Mart but did not scan all of the items before bagging them. Police said she allegedly concealed several items in her purse valued at $176, that she did not pay for. Following the shoplifting charge, the defendant was indicted by a grand jury on the probation violation. Because Holt did not show to enter a plea on the violation, Judge Carter Moore yesterday ordered her arrested and held without bond. Others who did not appear for their court hearings also were ordered arrested; Melissa Harris, William Crisp, Randall Joe Mathis, Alonzo Mark Mills, Steve E. Moore, Michelle Leigh Murphy, Stacey Sisk, James Sweeten and Jerrod Jerred Michael Turner.
