Waterline break in Parrottsville
Clint W. Hammonds, P.E. Water Works Manager for Newport Utilities says the fire this morning that destroyed Forest Hills Church on Old Parrottsville Highway, resulted in a water line leak in front of the Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department station. "Water crews quickly responded to the scene and found that about 11 feet of pipe was ruptured.  Repairs are underway and pipe should be complete within the next 1 to 2 hours.  However due to the amount of disturbance to the system, the recovery time may be several hours to get the system refilled and cleared.  Crews will be working to restore service as quickly as possible and flushing to clear the lines.  As a reminder, NU is actively replacing cast iron mains and Parrottsville area has previously been moved up in priority.  It will be the next one after Industrial Drive which is slated for next fiscal year.
