Fox arrest
A man who tried to leave Walmart in Newport with items valued in excess of $1,000 is in custody following a foot pursuit by Newport police. Willie Fox, 44, Bowman Drive, Newport, was told to stop as he exited the store, but he fled on foot, pursued by Patrol Officer Jessy Burgess. The subject jumped into his truck attempting to flee. Officer Burgess drew his service weapon, but Fox took off nearly striking Patrol Officer Jonathan Ball. Police say Fox fled through the store parking lot endangering other customers who were walking to their cars. Another officer blocked the Fox vehicle and he was taken into custody following a short struggle. He now is charged with felony reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest, resisting arrest and theft over $1,000.
