Weekend drug arrests Three Newport men were taken into custody over the weekend in separate drug arrests by Cocke County authorities. Christoper Pabon, 29, Estie Way, Newport, was the passenger in a vehicle stopped by Deputy James Cupp on West Broadway. The subject appeared to have a large bulge inside his pants, and further investigation revealed a digital scale and several baggies used to package narcotics. The three large bags contained just under five ounces of methamphetamine. Pabon's cell phone was seized when he was jailed on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. During transport to the jail, Pabon reportedly told Deputy Joshua Boyce that he sold narcotics in several counties "and it didn't matter what his bond was, that he would be getting out of jail that evening." The subject was initially held without bond, but his bond later was set at $500,000. On Saturday, Deputy Cupp arrested Bruce Hurst, 39, Cherry Brook Way, Newport following a traffic stop on Carson Springs Road. He was wanted on two warrants charging him with probation violations. Upon searching the vehicle, Deputy Cupp located two bags of heroin weighing 1.2 grams and a baggie of methamphetamine weighing 1.4 grams. As a result, Hurst was jailed on charges of possession of heroin and methamphetamine. The probation violations stemmed from convictions for attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as well as possession of schedule I and II controlled substances. On Sunday, Deputy Cupp and Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg made contact with Jeremy Green, 37, North Country Lane, Newport, who was found to have pending probation violations in both Sevier and Jefferson Counties. As a result, Green was told to get on the ground and he was arrested. During a subsequent search, the subject was found to be in possession of five baggies of methamphetamine, weighing nearly 17 grams, digital scales, methamphetamine pipe and a small quantity of marijuana. Now Green is charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
