Rural Tennessee business is growing faster than its cities
Business filings in Tennessee showed strong year-over-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2019. Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced Tuesday that Business filings showed strong year-over-year growth. Compared to the same quarter last year, new entity filings rose by 7.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019. Hargett held a news conference on Tuesday with UT economist Dr. Bill Fox. Dr. Fox said he is encouraged by growth levels across the state outside of the state's large cities. "Growth on average in rural areas is better than in the four largest cities. In fact growth in Nashville is a little weaker than in the recent past," Fox said. Still, he pointed out that earlier this week the Wall Street Journal reported that Nashville is the second fastest growing city in the country, so the city remains a leader in the country. Dr. Fox did say the coronavirus could have a negative impact on the nation and world economies if it continues to spred.
