RNC national convention may come to Tennessee
The Republican Party is considering Tennessee as a possible national convention site this Fall. Party officials will visit Nashville tomorrow. President Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday evening that North Carolina would no longer be hosting the RNC, however the decision is not Trumps to make. Republican party officials do not like the restrictions North Carolina has put in place to control the spread of COVID 19. Governor Bill Lee said hosting the convention in Tennessee would help Nashville and the state's economy rebound from the coronavirus pandemic. "We certainly would be interested in welcoming that to our city," Lee said . "It would be a great opportunity for us to build upon the economic recovery that's already occurring." Currently the Republican National Convention is scheduled for August in Charlotte. But Republicans are in standoff with North Carolina officials who want the party to demonstrate it can hold the convention safely amid the pandemic.
