Mantooth Butcher shop fire
A major Cocke County butchering operation was stroyed by a fire that was reported late Tuesday night. The Cocke County Fire Department along with Centerview Volunteer Fire Department and other volunteer units from around the county responded to Mantooth's Custom Meats, operated by Chuck Mantooth, at 10:21 pm. Upon arrival at the business on Buffalo Road in the Bybee community, firefighters found flames coming from windows in the structure. They battled the flames until 3 am today. The office area was destroyed by fire, and the warehouse and storage of meats also were destroyed due to the heat and smoke. The fire is not suspicious in nature and is believed to have started from an electrical short. Tennessee state fire officials have been asked to assist in the investigation to determine the cause. Firefighters place the estimated loss at $1 million.
