Couture assault Cocke County authorities are investigating the severe assault on Monday of a Cosby woman. Deputy Christopher Williamson said he responded to a residence on South Highway 32 after receiving a report that a woman covered in blood was lying on the front lawn, just after 12 noon. Dawn Lee Couture, 46, was found lying on the ground outside her apartment door, calling for help. She was bleeding from the mouth, her lips were swollen, and her eyes were swollen shut. Her hand also was injured and deputies said she appeared to have been beaten severely. The victim wore a heavy jacket but was nude from the waist down. When asked what happened, Couture said she had fallen from her bed "six or seven times". First Call EMS personnel arrived on the scene and called for a medical helicopter that flew the injured woman to a hospital. Officers found blood on the walls, floor, doors of the bathroom, and the living room area. But there was no blood in the bedroom. Neighbors reported that an ex-boyfriend recently had broken open the apartment door and had assaulted Ms. Couture. The investigation into the assault is continuing and no arrest has been made.
