Restrictions when Jeff scholls open
Jefferson County schools are scheduled to open on August 3. Officials say they will encourage students to wear masks, and some rows will be blocked off, but there will not be a six foot distance on school buses. Transportation officials say they would only be able to fit about 18 students on a 90 passenger bus if the six-foot rule was followed. The temperature of all students will be checked upon arrival at school, and those with an elevated temp will be sent to the school nurse. Other possible changes include having teachers move from classroom to classroom instead of students moving between classrooms. And some students may eat in their classrooms. High school students may take some classes online and others in-person. Any student who is uncomfortable returning to the classroom can take classes virtually. The district is working to increase WiFi access and provide computers for each student. The district is also working on plans with local health officials on how to respond if someone tests positive for COVID-19.
