Tennessee counties may mandate masks
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has issued an executive order allowing counties to require the mandatory wearing of masks. The Mayo Clinic says wearing a cloth mask can help reduce the spread of the coronavirus by people who have COVID-19 but don't realize it. And countries that required face masks, testing, isolation and social distancing early in the pandemic have had success in slowing the spread of the virus. Cocke County Mayor Crystal Ottinger is asking for feedback from the community on the Cocke County COVID 19, Facebook site. “ I’d like to hear your thoughts on whether or not you would be in favor of the mandatory wearing of masks,” adds the mayor. Here is a sampling of the responses; Says Michael.. I always wear a mask inside public spaces, then remove it outside. It doesn’t seem like much of a bother. Malcom says....No this should be each individuals choice and there’s no science that backs it up 100% Says Valerie.... Mandatory in businesses. If you can't wear one, stay home or get a friend to go get your necessities. This is very serious... Joanne has this thoughtful response....I think everyone should wear masks. It keeps you and your family and everyone around you safe. Would you want your baby or grandparent to go through this? Keep them safe. Stop thinking about yourself. Sheila observes...Yes please!!! I am a respiratory therapist at LeConte and even though the death rate has been reduced with all the new treatments you don’t see what these people go through.. the damage to their lungs is unimaginable!!! Tina says... Yes... I'm sorry that some look at it as punishment or there(sic) God giving right, but you need to stop being selfish and think of your family and friends and the children and elderly. I know it sucks but we are America, act like it But Brittany says..... No.....A few people I know wore them at work and still got the virus. Karen agrees, saying, No! Those who want to wear a mask, please do so. But, I won't be wearing a mask. If you want to comment on the issue go to the Cocke County COVID 19 Facebook page.
