NU plans waterline work
.Newport Utilities water crews have scheduled a water outage in the Edwina Bridgeport area for Wednesday morning. The work is part of the first phase of water line extensions being constructed with the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that were awarded to Cocke County this past year. The grant project consists of 2.6 miles of new waterline. Grant funds will help the utility to extend waterlines in four different locations throughout the county to deliver water service to currently unserved areas. NU Water Crews will begin work at 9:30 am till 1:30 pm. The outage will affect customers along East Hwy 25/70 from Edwina Bridgeport Rd to the Bridgeport Market. NU asks that commuters and residents be aware of crews working in and around the roadways as safety of the public and the NU crews is its highest priority, according to Corporate Communications Manager, Sharon R. Kyser. The utility thanks the community for its cooperation and understanding as they work to improve the community's waterworks infrastructure.
