I-40 crash details are released
The Sevierville Police Department on Monday released information regarding that Saturday evening five-vehicle crash on I-40 near the 407 exit. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by 40-year old Darryl Kerr of Morganton, Georgia was traveling west at 6:40 pm when the vehicle crossed the median and crashed into eastbound traffic. One person died and three others were injured. The Jeep Wrangler rolled over and Mr. Kerr was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via Lifestar Air Ambulance. The driver of a 2015 Subaru Forester, 55-year old Bettina Koelzer of Marian, Iowa died as a result of her injuries. Two passengers in a vehicle from Missouri were transported to UTMC by Lifestar after the vehicle rolled over. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved,-a 2003 Freightliner tractor trailer and a 2019 Nissan Altima,-were not injured. Interstate 40 East was closed from mm 402 to mm 407 until approximately midnight. The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
