Tractor trailer pursuit
A woman is facing charges after leading Knox County and Jefferson County deputies as well as Tennessee Highway Patrol officers on a Tuesday morning chase in a tractor trailer rig on Interstate 40. Amy Butler-Cordray was arrested near the I-40 and I-81 split after a chase that began in East Knox County. The suspect stole a tractor-trailer from the Pilot Travel Center at the Strawberry Plains exit of the interstate at about 10 am. She did not stop for Knox County officers who attempted a traffic stop and instead entered Strawberry Plains Pike and eventually I-40 eastbound. Attempts to deploy spike strips were unsuccessful because Butler-Cordray swerved to avoid them until near Mile Marker 422. The highway patrol deployed spike strips and the rig came to a stop in a ditch after leaving the roadway. The woman also was in possession of a gray pit bull puppy that was in a car at the truck stop which had been earlier reported stolen from Memphis. The stolen car which may have been driven there by Butler-Cordray, was recovered a short distance from where the suspect took the tractor trailer rig.
