Two Cocke County homes destroyed by fire
Two homes in Cocke County were destroyed by fires Monday. Firefighter Michael Allen said the first fire was reported at 5:30 am in the double-wide mobile home owned by Mary Ann Wilson on Huff Road in Cosby. Ms. Wilson who escaped the blaze without injury told firefighters the blaze started on the front porch, but the origin is undetermined. Firefighter Allen said the flames quickly spread into the attic area and engulfed the blaze before firefighters arrived on the scene. The owner said the home contained recently purchased equipment for the manufacture of homemade quilts. The loss in the blaze is estimated at $300,000. Cocke County firefighters were joined by volunteers from Cosby, Grassy Fork and Pittman Center Volunteer Fire Departments. Then at 8:40 am, firemen responded to the David Carver home on Deans Way in the Del Rio community. Lt. Tim Belcher of the Cocke County Fire Department said the home was made up of two separate single-wide mobile homes that were attached to make one residence. The3 cause of the blaze is undetermined however all of the occupants were able to escape without injury. In addition to the Cocke County Fire Department, the blaze was fought by units from the Del Rio, Long Creek and Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Departments, and left a loss estimated at $35,000.
