Cocke County Partnership The Cocke County Partnership Executive Committee meeting Thursday was told by President Lucas Graham that progress on the new Highway 25E "industrial park", is coming along well. However he is hoping the location will not be called an industrial park because a number of non-industrial enterprises want to locate there. "I hope when the CLB (county legislative body)picks a name it will be an innovation park, and we will be able to move forward with that," said Partnership President Lucas Graham. Earth is expected to be moved at the site before Thanksgiving. Graham went on to say the federal Economic Development Administration has yet to approve an anticipated infrastructure grant for the site. "We had applied for a $3 million grant but the agency ran out of money. "They did like out application and asked us to re-apply and they will consider it in the current budget." Graham told the board that retail prospects mostly are at a standstill because of the economic slowdown as the result of the coronavirus but he did say the board of directors of one major retailer is to vote on October 22 on locating a store in Newport. The body also voted to give Graham his $10,000 bonus and a retroactive three percent cost of living raise effective since his first year anniversary. Chair Truitt Ottinger pointed out that Graham has been in his position going on five years without a cost of living raise. He said Graham has done an excellent job "considering the economic environment we find ourselves in." Added Ottinger, "You have a small staff to do what you all do. It does not go unnoticed. We appreciate what you do." Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lynn Ramsey said the theme of this year's Christmas parade on December 12 will be "Memories of Christmas' Past". And there are plans to develop a Rudolph Road Show, featuring a map pinpointing the location of homes around the county that are decorated for the holidays, and to award prizes for the best-decorated properties.
