Sports betting From November 1 through the 8th, more than $27.4 million was wagered, bringing in a total tax of $509,000 during the first week of legal sports gambling in Tennessee. “These numbers are encouraging as we work to protect the consumer, promote fairness in sports and regulate this new Tennessee industry that provides critical funds for education, as well as local governments and problem gambling services,” said President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery (TEL) Rebecca Paul Hargrave. Four companies have been approved as sportsbooks in Tennessee. The Tennessee General Assembly enacted sports betting more than a year ago.
