Morgan arrest
A Seymore man is in custody and charges are pending in connection with a Tuesday pursuit. Newport Sgt. Derek Wright said he observed a red Ford Focus speeding on Highway 25/70 at 2:28 am, and he attempted a traffic stop. The auto, registered to Craig Morgan, 32 who was wanted by Cocke County Circuit Court on a probation violation, enter Interstate 40 westbound. Officer Wright said Morgan traveled at a high rate of speed and then braked suddenly in an effort to cause the officer to crash his cruiser. Morgan also drove onto the shoulder of the interstate, passing several vehicles "at a reckless speed and without regard to other motorists," the officer said. The suspect later was taken into custody and will face charges associated with the pursuit.
