Boyd arrest
Newport police charged a Knoxville man while they were involved in a property check of the Motel 6 on Friday. Patrol Officer Paul Weber said he detected an odor of marijuana in the stairwell, and then observed Demarcus Boyd, 25, seated in his auto parked nearby. The subject appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and was in possession of marijuana. During the conversation with Boyd, police were approached by a juvenile female who identified Boyd as her boyfriend. The female said she was 19 years-old. Further investigation however revealed that the girl was 13 years-old. She said she had told Boyd she was 19, and at his request had sent him nude photos of herself on Snapchat. Boyd said after receiving the photos he paid for an Uber driver to bring the girl from her hometown of Asheville to the motel. As a result, Boyd was taken into custody on charges of statutory rape, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of marijuana and DUI.
