Cosby shooting death
Cocke County authorities are looking for individuals who may have information regarding a Friday night shooting which left a Cosby man dead. Chief Deputy CJ Ball said at 10:36 pm, Deputy Lt. David Moriarty of the Cocke County Sheriff Office was dispatched to the “Three Way Inn Bar” at 4398 Cosby Highway in reference to a man outside the bar with a gun. Upon arrival on the scene, Lt. Moriarty found a white male on the ground between two vehicles. The male was identified as William Dean Valentine, 53. Lt. Moriarty found a firearm in Valentine’s possession, and the victim was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected in the investigation and Chief Deputy Ball said the gunshot appears to have been self inflicted. However, anyone who has information regarding the circumstances that led to the death, should contact Detective Lt. Michael Whitmer at 423-623-3064.
