Del Rio crash injures one
A Marshall, North Carolina woman was seriously injured Friday evening in a single vehicle crash in Cocke County. Trooper Ethan Shults of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the incident occurred on Highway 107 in Del Rio, near the Meadow Spring Road intersection at 7:10 pm. Elizabeth Ashley Southerland, 34, was traveling southbound in a 2006 Toyota Highlander when the auto ran off the right side of the roadway off into a ditch. The Highlander then struck two trees with the driver’s side center. Southerland who was wearing her seatbelt, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. She was transported to UT Medical Center with serious injuries. A passenger in the auto, Elizabeth Hope Beaty, 20, Del Rio, was not injured. Trooper Shults said charges are pending in the crash.
