Busler plea and sentencing A Cocke County man charged with sexual offenses involving two young children, on Tuesday was given a 40 year sentence in Cocke County Circuit Court. Christopher Chase Busler, 23, Orchard View Drive, Newport, entered guilty pleas to four counts attempted rape of a child and two counts aggravated sexual battery, involving children between the ages of eight and twelve. In addition he pled guilty to a charge of vandalism stemming from the destruction of a kiosk in the Cocke County Jail while he was incarcerated. Judge Carter Moore imposed the negotiated sentence, with 16 years to be served at 100 percent. The 24 year balance will be served on supervised probation. Busler also is ordered to have no contact with the victims or through a third party, and he also is required to register as a sex offender and to be under community supervision for life. The defendant was originally arrested in 2017 after he admitted to having sex with a nine year-old male on three occasions. Later charges were handed down by the grand jury alleging similar offenses with another person under the age of 13 that same year. So originally Busler faced a total of nine counts each of Rape of a Child and Aggravated Sexual Battery.
