Guns
President Joe Biden announced a series of executive actions Thursday on gun control . Biden has faced pressure to address gun violence in the wake of recent mass shootings around the country. The president is directing the Justice Department to issue proposals to control"ghost guns" .....homemade guns often made from parts bought online that do not have traceable serial numbers, and are sold to anyone. The action came on the day Tennessee Governor Bill Lee singed legislation to allow most Tennesseans to be able to carry a handgun in the state without a permit. It also includes increased penalties for gun crimes. The law goes into effect July 1. Biden's move is drawing criticism from leading Tennessee lawmakers who see pending gun control measures as a way to strip 2nd Amendment rights. State Representative Jeremy Faison, Republican of Cosby tweeted that " the state of Tennessee will meet the DC thugs at our border." Later the Republican House Caucus Chairman attempted to modify the tweet. "That’s obviously me just being colorful with my speech,” he told WKRN TV. “If D.C. or the White House starts to do a gun grab or anything that we would view as in the state as something that’s not constitutional or goes against what we as a state believes is our gun rights and our constitutional rights, we will fight it as hard as we can with everything we have,” Faison added. Responded State Senator Jeff Yarbro ma Democrat from Nashville, “Everybody in America has just experienced one of the most high conflict periods over the last 6 months, and I think it’s time to bring the temperature down and actually focus on how we solve a problem instead of trying to exchange insults or threats.” In a related story.................. Transportation Security Administration officers found four loaded handguns in carry on luggage at security checkpoints in the Nashville International Airport last week. Firearms may be transported in checked baggage if they are reported to the airline, unloaded and in a proper carrying case. Firearms are prohibited in carry-on luggage. Officers in 2020, found a total of 94 guns at the airport.
