Elder abuse
A Newport woman faces elder abuse charges after she allegedly slapped her handicapped mother across the face during an argument. Newport Patrol Officer Joshyua Shults was told that Angela Elizabeth Moore, 42, Seventh Street, argued with her mother, 60 year-old Donna Lee Hughes and then slapped her on the face. Officer Shults said Ms. Moore has been paralyzed on her left side since she suffered a stroke. A witness said since the stroke the victim has been required to use a walker and a wheelchair, and Moore has served as her caregiver. Now the defendant faces charges of domestic violence as well as Willful abuse, neglect or exploitation of an elder or disabled adult.
