Arrest warrant issued for Samples
A Cocke County man who faces sexual offense charges in Cocke County Circuit failed to appear on Monday for his arraignment. Ryan Samples, 29, Neddy Mountain Road, Del Rio, was named on a presentment returned last year by a Cocke County Grand Jury, charging him with aggravated sexual battery. The presentment alleges Samples had sexual contact with a victim under the age of 13 in April of last year, but he wasn't taken into custody until March of this year. And he later was released on a $150,000 bond. Because the defendant didn't show for his arraignment, Judge Carter Moore issued an arrest warrant for Samples and ordered that he be held without bond. A fire in Downtown Newport the night of April 4, damaged the offices of the Fourth Judicial Public Defnders Office, and the office has been closed since that time. On Monday Asst. Public Defender Keith Haas announced that the office will move. Beginning on May 1, the office will be located in the former Tom Testerman law office at 301 East Broadway. Haas says his phone number will remain the same; 423-625-8353.
