Newport drug roundup Officers of the Newport Police Department are continuing to make arrests associated with a recent undercover drug investigation in and around the City of Newport. Newport Chief of Police Maurice Shults said the investigation was conducted by Newport Police Department Drug Investigator Capt. Derrick Webb. The investigation has resulted in presentments charging the sale and delivery of a variety of controlled substances including heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine. Those arrested include; Ralph Robert Maybee, 32, Newport was arrested on charges of 2 counts of sale and delivery of heroin, 2 counts sale and delivery of fentanyl as well as one count of sale and delivery of methamphetamine in excess of .5 gram. Branden Lee James, 32 of Newport is charged with the sale and delivery of methamphetamine in excess of .5 gram. One of the individuals indicted is currently in the Knox County Jail on unrelated charges. A hold was placed on the unidentified defendant on charges of the sale and delivery of controlled substances to include heroin and methamphetamine. The police chief expressed appreciation for the work of Detective Webb and the cooperation of the Office of District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn during the ongoing investigation.
