Newport investigating alleged child abuse incident Newport authorities are investigating a reported child abuse incident on Myers Circle which allegedly took place on Saturday. Newport Patrolman Mike Robey was told that Stephanie Gordon, 37, struck a child on the face, strangled her and then shoved a cigarette into her neck. Officer Robey said Gordon appeared intoxicated but she told officers that the incident stemmed from her finding the alleged victim and another girl snorting a narcotic. The investigation is continuing by the Department of Children's Services and Gordon was jailed on public intoxication charges.
