Dunn confirms he asked for probe of highway department
Fourth Judicial District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn confirmed Tuesday that he requested an investigation into the "allegations of criminal conduct" involving the Cocke County Highway Department. The prosecutor says as part of the investigation, members of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation served search warrants to obtain records and other evidence relevant to the investigation which is on-going. "Upon completion of the investigation, I will review the file and take appropriate action," said General Dunn. TBI spokesman Josh Devine said the investigation is aimed at allegations that Cocke County Highway Superintendent Kenneth Ford "directed employees to use public funds and equipment to build private roads and driveways." About half a dozen agents spent most of the day on Monday, removing files from the county finance office as well as the highway department offices on Lower Quarry Road. Ford says the agents took records documenting how much rock has been hauled out, as well as purchase orders and receipts. "Somebody alleged I misused county equipment. It's nothing but politics," the superintendent told the NewsSource
