Poe arrest
A Cocke County woman is in custody facing a charge of theft over $1,000, in connection with a Saturday incident. Melinda Poe, 53, Gossamer Road, Cosby, was arrested by Newport patrolman Matthew Elliott. David Tracey, Caney Creek Road, Cosby, told police he was the Top Fuel Bar on West Broadway when Poe asked him to walk her to her car. While the two hugged, at 12:39 a.m., Ms. Poe allegedly took Tracey's money clip containing more than $2,200. The victim told police he followed the suspect and observed her throwing items out the window. After Poe's vehicle was stopped, a search of her person revealed a total of $2,331 in cash which was returned to Tracey.
