Alleged racial slur leads to arrest
Newport authorities have charged two individuals Wednesday evening, in connection with an altercation on Eighth Street. Newport Sgt. Donald Coakley said officers responded to the scene after Julia Rathbone reported Ariel Gore, 24, Eighth Street, made a racial slur toward Rathbone's five year-old son. Rathbone reported she confronted Gore, a verbal exchange ensued and then Gore allegedly kicked Rathbone. In addition Austin Allison, 21, also of Eighth Street, allegedly grabbed Rathbone's neck from behind, threw her to the ground and then kicked her. As a result, Allison was charged with aggravated assault and Gore was charged with assault. In addition, Gore was wanted on a previously issued warrant for failure to appear in court in another case.
