Moore charged with animal cruelty
For the second time in a week Cocke County authorities have responded to reports of animal neglect. Deputy Sgt. Michael Whitmer says he responded to Baysinger Road, on reports of malnourished dogs. The officer and Animal Control Officers Scotty Shelton and Lisa Layman went to the home of Michael Shane Moore, Jr, 21, where they found dogs that "appeared to be underweight." One dog was loose inside a fence and three other dogs were chained to trees. One of the dogs had a chain around it's neck which was so tight, there was hair loss and red abrasions. The three chained dogs were confined to a small area which was covered in feces. The two water buckets were stagnant with algae and bugs in them. I addition, the dog food appeared to be moldy. The four dogs were removed, given a health screen and are in the custody of the Dr. Carol Hood Memorial Animal Shelter. Because Moore allegedly did not provide the necessary food, water, care or shelter, he was charged Monday with animal cruelty. Last week Sgt. Whitmer found 22 horses and a cow, that were under-weight and in poor health on Lonesome Pine Road, also in the Bybee community. Charges are pending in that case.
