Triple fatality in Greeneville
Three people were killed when a car crashed into a tree during a police chase in Greeneville on Sunday, leading the Tennessee Highway Patrol to charge the 18-year-old driver with three counts of homicide. Authorities say the driver tried to flee from Greeneville police on Old Tusculum Road. The driver, Lucas B. Riddle, 18, Greeneville, tried to negotiate a curve and lost control, leaving the right side of the road and striking a tree. The THP said the crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. Sunday near 1726 Old Tusculum Road. His passengers, Aaron J. Overbay, 38, Crystal N. Manis, 31, and Jerrod Wardrip, no age given, all of Greeneville, were killed in the crash. The highway patrol said neither Riddle nor his passengers were wearing seat belts. The report indicates that Riddle had not been drinking, but a blood alcohol test was ordered. All three passengers had been drinking. Riddle, who was injured in the crash, was charged with three counts of criminally negligent homicide.
