Jones false report It was earlier this week that 58 year-old Jay Jones, Driskell Circle, Newport, told Newport police he was assaulted by an intruder who entered his home while he sat in his living room. Jones said the attack so surprised him, he was unable to get a description of the home invasion subject. First Call EMS took Jones to the Newport Medical Center for treatment of facial and head injuries. But on Thursday, Jones changed his story. He told Newport Detective Sgt. Derrick Webb that he had been drinking wine, and as he walked on the sidewalk near his home, he stepped on his shoestring, causing him to fall on his face. He admitted Thursday that the Monday evening report was false, and as a result Detective Webb says the case now is closed.
