Majors incident investigated
Cocke County authorities say a woman who identified herself as Elizabeth Major was injured on Monday of this week when she jumped from a moving vehicle on Holt Town Road near McCowan Creek Church. Deputy Tony Bailey responding to an inquiry from the NewsSource, said a witness reported seeing the woman jumping from a white SUV which was traveling at an estimated 20 miles per hour at about 2:15 p.m. After the passenger jumped out, the auto fled the scene. Ms. Majors appeared disoriented but had only a small scratch on her shoulder. Because she appeared disoriented and was unable to answer questions, Majors was flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville for evaluation. In January, 2015, Newport police said Elizabeth Major, who was 20 years-old, Jefferson Avenue, Newport, was driving on East Broadway when she crashed into a utility pole. But she fled the scene on foot. When police caught her, Major said she had taken suboxone, and after being taken to jail, was found to be in possession of Clonazepam. With regard to this week's incident, authorities have not located the auto which fled the scene.
