Hall arrest
A man wanted on sealed presentments returned recently by a Cocke County Grand Jury has been taken into custody. Cocke County Deputy Andy Tritt said Gary Lewis Hall, 31, Buffalo Road, Bybee was arrested at his residence on four counts of the sale and delivery of a schedule II controlled substance. In Cocke County Circuit Court on Monday, Judge Ben Hooper arraigned another man recently indicted by the grand jury. Jason Alverez, 34, Parrotts Ridge Road, Parrottsville was arraigned on seven counts of the sale and delivery of heroin. That case was investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Back in 2013, Alverez was charged with recruiting a female to smuggle heroin and oxycodone to an inmate in the Cocke County Jail. A telephone conversation was monitored and when the female Alverez had recruited took a Bible into the jail, it was searched and was found to contain heroin and oxycodone. In another case in circuit court on Monday, a Cocke County man indicted in connection with a fatal traffic accident had his bond reduced. Corey Black, 21, Mulberry Avenue, Newport,is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, DUI, vehicular assault and filing a false police report. Black was allegedly operating a car that plunged down the mountainside after leaving Black Mountain Road in the Grassy Fork community. Chelsey Williamson, 24, Armory Road, Newport, died as a result of her injuries, and another passenger Cortney Shultz, 23, Rankin Hill Road, Newport, was injured when the auto it traveled down the mountainside for 250 to 300 feet, stopping when it crashed into a tree. Bond for Black was initially set at $250,000, however Judge Hooper reduced it to $15,000. If Black is released he will be required to wear a GPS monitor as well as an alcohol/drug monitor. Black also may have no contact with the surviving victim and "if you get into any trouble there will be no bond," the court ruled.
