Arrests on Cocke County grand jury presentments
A Cocke County man already facing major marijuana charges, Thursday was taken into custody on new charges handed down by a Cocke County Grand Jury earlier in the week. Arter "Buddy" Ball,59, Chavis Road, Cosby, the operator of Buddy's Lounge and Restaurant on Chavis Road, is charged with two counts sale and delivery of marijuana in excess of one-half ounce and casual exchange of marijuana. In October, 2015, Cocke County authorities were joined by state and federal agents when they served search warrants on the Ball home and garage. Although the lounge was the target of an investigation, it was not searched at that time. The sheriff said about 25 pounds of marijuana, including buds, with an estimated street value of $120,000, was seized along with suboxone. In addition, a Toyota pickup truck, four firearms and ammunition were seized, as well as a motorcycle engine which had been reported stolen from Detroit, Michigan. Ball was charged with possession of hash and marijuana for resale and possession of suboxone. Others described as "upper-level dealers" also were arrested in that investigation. In February of this year Ball was indicted additionally for possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The new charges allege sales of marijuana in July and October of last year, in an investigation conducted by Drug Agent Chuck Evans of the sheriff's department. Also a woman indicted earlier in the week in a total of ten burglaries now is charged with additional offenses on a new presentment. Rachel Lauren Ingram, 18, Winter Road, Parrottsville, is charged with aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000 and mailbox vandalism in an investigation by Detective Bryan Murr. Ingram is charged with burglarizing properties in the Del Rio and Parrottsville communities. She was visiting an inmate in the jail on Thursday when Deputy Sgt. Michael Whitmer arrested her on the new charge.
