Gasoline supplies
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has issued an Executive Order waiving hours of service requirements for petroleum transporters to prevent any fuel supply disruptions for Tennesseans as a result of the Colonial pipeline leak in Alabama. "We are not currently seeing any widespread unavailability of petroleum in Tennessee,” Haslam said. “We urge Tennesseans to maintain their normal fuel purchasing and driving patterns to help prevent any potential impacts on our fuel supply while the pipeline undergoes repairs.” Gov. Haslam’s executive order only relates to fuel transportation for this state related to hours-of-service suspensions. The emergency declaration will allow drivers to work longer hours to ensure petroleum is available to gas stations in Tennessee. Several Tennessee departments, and private sector energy partners are monitoring the petroleum supply issue and collaborating to alleviate and address any petroleum disruptions in Tennessee. Spokesperson for Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Dean Flener, says as long as consumers continue with normal gas usage, Tennessee will not have a shortage. “We want to reassure consumers that there is availability of fuel in Tennessee,” said Flener. He also said a shortage may be specific to certain stations. “We may be seeing some local outages at gas stations, but it seems the other reports we are getting is that if a station runs out, it’s not too long until that station has a supply again and that other gas stations around there may still have supply,” Flener said.. TEMA is urging drivers to wait to fill up the tank until it is close to empty. It says if drivers fill up too early, there could be issues in the availability of gasoline.
