Pigeon River drowning victim is identified
Cocke County authorities have made a positive identification of a man who drowned Monday evening in the Pigeon River. Administrative Captain Derrick Woods said Julio Caesar DeLeon, 61, was identified through fingerprinting. The employee of Fish Farms drowned off O'Neil Road in the Edwina community. He was with another unidentified male at the time of the incident who told Deputy Joseph Owings they had been drinking prior to DeLeon jumping into the water. He swam for about 75 feet before going under. The body was recovered near the point of the incident by members of the Cocke County Fire Department and the Newport Rescue Squad. The victim who lived on O'Neil Road, was a native of Guatemala, and had moved to Cocke County several days earlier from South Carolina.
