McPherson and Hannah arrests
A Cocke County couple has been arrested on charges they robbed a Jefferson County man while posing as Cocke County officers. The morning of October 7, Gary Whaley of Dandridge told Cocke County authorities that a white female approached him for "a date" while he washed his clothes at a Newport coin laundry. The 49 year-old Whaley told Detective Zach Shelton he declined the woman's proposition, saying he was not interested. But a short time later the female was joined by a white male, and the two approached him, as he left the laundry. The victim said the female flashed a badge and said she worked for the sheriff's department. She then told Whaley he would be charged with soliciting for prostitution. After the male shoved Whaley against his truck, the woman removed the victim's wallet and took $100 in cash. The couple then fled as Whaley attempted to block them in with his vehicle. Detective Shelton received information Thursday that a vehicle matching the couple's get-away auto was at the KOA Campground. Deputy Jonathan Ball went to the site where he found Craig Hannah, 31 and Alicia McPherson, 28, in a camper. A subsequent search of the camper revealed suspected methamphetamine and spoons in a cabinet where the couple slept. Both now are charged with the original offenses of robbery, criminal impersonation and theft. The couple was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. McPherson is charged additionally with evading arrest.
