Bowers fatality
A Hartford man died Thursday afternoon in a freak accident at a home construction site in the Parrottsville community of Cocke County. Chief Cocke County Sheriff's Deputy John Carrell identified the victim as 56 year-old Timothy Duane Bowers. Bowers was at the site of a new home being built on the James Kent Jeffries property on Sane Road, Parrottsville at the time of the 1 p.m.incident. Chief Carrell said Bowers was in a ditch coupling sections of pipe when Jeffries, 63, operating a compact farm tractor approached the ditch with a bucket load of gravel. As the tractor neared the ditch, the bank gave way, and the victim was pinned as the tractor bucket dropped. The victim was freed from the ditch before emergency personnel arrived on the scene. A medical helicopter responded to the site however Bowers could not be revived. The victim was transported by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center and an autopsy was ordered.
