Tax collections continue to exceed expectations
Tennessee's fiscal year revenue collection is now $154.6 million more than expected during the budget year's first two months. The state's September tax and fee collections show revenue exceeding monthly budget estimates by $116.6 million. "While we are encouraged by the September revenue numbers, we do have some concerns about the sustainability of our franchise and excise tax growth for the balance of thisew by $24.1 million, or 4.5 percent more than projected. The commissioner says, corporate taxes also posted growth of more than 12 percent. And that generated nearly $76 million more than estimates. year," says Finance Commissioner Larry Martin. September's revenue showed growth of 6.38 percent over last year. The state funding board projections for last year failed to anticipate tax and fee growth that resulted in a nearly $1 billion surplus.
