North Carolina man arrested in American Legion theft
A North Carolina man who had been living in a Cocke County campground was taken into custody Wednesday on embezzlement charges. Cocke County Deputy Lt. Ricky Holt said William Ray Bell, 67, Snow Hill, NC was arrested as a fugitive from justice. Bell was wanted on felony charges of Embezzlement and the Corrupt use and mis-application of funds belonging to American Legion Post 94. The defendant held the position of Finance Officer with the Post and allegedly misappropriated $12,000 of Post funds. He had been staying at the Cosby Ranch Campground on South Highway 32 and now is being held awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
