Norton/Russell death investigation is closed Fourth Judicial District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn and Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes, announced on Wednesday that the August 25 death of seven year-old Jayden Norton of Parrottsville, was an accident. An investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol also determined that the subsequent death of Christopher Allen Russell, Jayden's grandfather, was the result of Russell loosing control of his vehicle. Cocke County authorities responded to reports of a shooting on Shenandoah Way, just before 1 a.m. On the scene they were told the boy was shot in the chest while his grandfather was showing him a .357 handgun he had just acquired. Christopher Russell, 54, was not at the home when officers arrived. The Tennessee Highway Patrol later determined that Russell died in the crash, after leaving the roadway, plunging down an embankment and striking a tree and culvert off North Highway 340. Prosecutor Dunn expressed his appreciation for the assistance of the sheriff's department, THP and TBI in the investigation which now is closed.
