Newport beautification grants
An appropriation of $10,000 has been earmarked for a grant program that seeks to entice local property and business owners to make facade improvements to their current buildings. "The City will match a property or business owner up to 50% ($1,000 maximum) on a facade improvement project so long as it meets certain criteria,"says Newport City Planning Director Gary Carver. Applications are currently available at City Hall for the program. A selection committee will review and evaluate each application, giving preference to projects with the most significant impact to the street / neighborhood it improves. Some eligible projects include, but are not limited to: · Pressure washing of building exterior · Awning repair or replacement · Stucco or brick treatment that improves the appearance of the structure · Painting of building exterior · Broken window repair / replacement The grant program will be administered in conjunction with Keep Cocke County Beautiful. This is a reimbursable grant, and so all costs associated with the project must be completed up front by the business or property owner. Applications for this grant and additional information regarding the program will be posted on Newport’s website (http://www.cityofnewport-tn.com) as well as the City’s social media outlets on Facebook (City of Newport, TN) and Twitter (@cityofnewporttn).
