Capital Bank to become First Tennessee
First Horizon National Corporation, headquartered in Memphis and Capital Bank, with a branch in Newport, have merged, creating the fourth largest regional bank in the Southeast. First Horizon will acquire Capital Bank, which has $10 billion in assets. The move will mean that First Horizon will have 393 branches. First Horizon will retain its First Tennessee bank brand in Tennessee, and branches outside Tennessee will use the Capital Bank name. The merger agreement has been approved by the boards of both companies.
