Foland injured by falling tree
A Cocke County woman sustained a head injury just after lunchtime on Wednesday, when a windstorm knocked a large tree onto her home. Cocke County Deputy Andy Tritt identified the woman as 68 year-old Janice Foland, who lives on Rose Way, in the Lower Cosby community. Chief Cocke County Deputy John Carroll said the initial call indicated a female was trapped in her home. Deputy Carroll along with an unidentified Grassy Fork volunteer firefighter were the first on the scene, and officers were able to make entry into the home through a front door, locating Foland in a bedroom. "A tree had broken off and fell onto the top of the house, completely penetrating the home into the interior. The home was completely destroyed, but Ms. Foland was assisted out of her house." The woman sustained a head injury and was examined on the scene by First Call EMS personnel however she declined transport for medical treatment. "She may have been struck by flying debris or it may have been the tree that struck her", Chief Carroll said. Also assisting at the scene were Sheriff Armando Fontes and Cosby Volunteer Firefighters. Deputy Tritt said a number of pets ran from the home in the aftermath of the incident but all have been found and are unharmed. The destroyed cinderblock and frame, by-level home valued at $90,000 is owned by John Lovell.
