Conservation funding available
The Cocke County Soil Conservation District will accept applications for Tennessee Department of Agriculture(TDA) cost sharing beginning July 5. Landowners who wish to participate in conservation practices such as cross fencing for rotational grazing, frost proof water tanks, pipelines, seeding for crop conservation or critical area treatments along with many other best practices, are encouraged to sign up early. Funding is extremely limited and the board approves on a first come-first served basis as long as the landowner has a resource concern and meets TDA guidelines. The District office is located at 451 West Broadway, Newport and is open 8 am to 4 pm. Call 423-623-8646 Ext.3 for more information.
