Former bus drivers are charged
A new Tennessee state law makes it illegal for school bus drivers to use their cell phones while driving, and now four former Tennessee school bus drivers charged with violations. The defendants are named on unsealed grand jury presentments under the new state law which provides for a 30 day jail term on conviction. The law was prompted by a 2014 crash of a school bus while the driver was texting. The crash killed two students and a teacher's aide. Prosecutors do not allege that any students were harmed as a result of texting by the newly indicted defendants.
