Shelton arrest
A Cocke County man allegedly involved in a Saturday shooting incident was arrested Sunday morning. Cocke County Deputy Wess Keys was told by Jessica McKay, McGaha Chapel Road, that James Michael Shelton, 41, Highway 25/70, Del Rio pulled beside a vehicle that was occupied by Ms. McKay and Benjamin Daniel Laws. Laws said Shelton told his female passenger, "I'm gonna kill you bitch." And as Laws sped away, Shelton allegedly fired two rounds into the passenger side of his auto where McKay was seated. Other witnesses said shots were fired at the Laws vehicle. Early Sunday morning, Deputy Logan Starritt spotted the green Honda which was the object of the search by county authorities. Shelton was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, Alprazolam, Gabapentine, marijuana as well as a large variety of bullets. He was jailed on charges of possession of methamphetamine and Alprazolam for resale, possession of marijuana and a controlled substance, no insurance and driving on a revoked license.
